Artist Review: Marco Brambilla

Brambilla is a Canadian artist and filmmaker. He first worked in mostly commercials and feature films. Then he shifted his focus to video and photography projects. He has exhibited works in public and private collections, including the Guggenheim Museum in New York, New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Cannes film festivals.

One of his video installations, "Cathedral" was filmed at the Toronto Eaton Centre mega mall during Christmas season. In this piece, there are multilayered images of shoppers circulate in slow motion. It creates a hallucinatory space. The process of creating this illusion is inspired by the time and motion studies of Frederick Winslow Taylor and Frank Gilbreth. The video is installed in a mirror box, which creates 3 dimensional effects.
